Choose the route shape
A road day, Base Torres hike and W Trek have different access and safety commitments; choose the objective before booking the room.

Regional field guide
Decide between day visits and a booked W Trek, then choose a Puerto Natales or park-side base and connect the correct entrance, bus and lake crossing.
Compare your optionsFirst decision
For a first short visit, choose one Torres del Paine sector, stay in Puerto Natales and plan a weather-flexible road or day-walk itinerary. Choose the W only after every required overnight, park entry and transport leg is available. The mountain route changes with CONAF rules and conditions; an old itinerary or single ticket cannot override current trail controls.
Choose the route first
Decide which kind of day you can support before choosing an overnight address or buying a bus ticket.
| Trip shape | Best fit | Plan around |
|---|---|---|
| Road and viewpoints | Shorter scenic visits and changeable-weather days | Long approaches from town; bus or vehicle access to the right sector. |
| Major day hike | One demanding walking objective without a multi-night chain | Trail cutoff, wind, daylight, current guide rules and last return. |
| Booked W Trek | Multi-day hikers with complete overnight and transport reservations | Refugio/campsite sequence, lake crossing, operator terms and possible trail controls. |
Planning order
A few early choices prevent most avoidable backtracking.

For a multi-day route, match each night to authorized lodging, then park entry, bus, local shuttle and any lake crossing.
Laguna Amarga, Pudeto and Grey are not interchangeable stops; verify the exact operator timetable and last return.
Wind, winter protocols, guide mandates and trail closures can change. Keep a lower-exposure fallback.
Park guides
These pages cover the park-level experience, hazards, and practical arrival decisions.
Plan a first Torres del Paine trip around the route before the wishlist: Puerto Natales access, booked refugios or campsites, exposed wind, trail controls, lake crossings, limited services, and fire rules all decide how ambitious the visit can be.
